What are the benefits?

Girls Like Me encourages skill and knowledge building around the organization's guiding principles:

1. SELF-VALUE RECOGNITION

Self-esteem heavily influences people's choices, decisions, and mental health. Our program mentors her to value herself so that she will establish a healthy balance of liking who she is, but also recognizing that there are ways she can continue to grow and develop.

2. SELF-REPRESENTATION

The way we present ourselves has an effect on how we and others feel about us. Our program trains her to present herself as an esteemed individual so that she will experience higher success in developing and maintaining social relationships/interactions and effectiveness as a leader.

3. VERBAL ENCOURAGEMENT

While words cannot change reality, words can change how she perceives the world around her. Our program facilitates an atmosphere where she is encouraged through the words of others so that she will experience a stronger belief in her ability to succeed.

4. MASTERING EXPERIENCES

Mastery experience is the most influential source of efficacy information. Our program provides opportunities for her to master experiences so that she can witness authentic evidence of whether she can muster what it takes to succeed.

5. OBSERVATION

Girls are more likely to imitate people whom they perceive similar to themselves. Our program provides an atmosphere where she is surrounded by positive people so that she will emulate the behaviors of people with high self-efficacy.

6. EMOTIONAL STATE INTERPRETATION

The emotional or physiological state that someone experiences can negatively influence their judgment toward their abilities to achieve their goals. Our program coaches her to control her emotional states when evaluating her abilities to achieve her goals so that she is skilled in practicing self-reflection and examining the meaning of her internal thoughts.
